Two persons including woman arrested for attempting to smuggle foreign liquor

IRINJALAKUDA: The Irinjalakuda Excise Department has arrested two persons, including a woman, who attempted to smuggle 72 litres of foreign liquor in a car. The liquor, which was being smuggled in the car from Mahe, was seized on the basis of a tip-off received by the Excise Department. The arrested persons are Kozhikode Malaparamba native Daniel (40) and Kuttichira native Saahina (45).

The accused attempted to smuggle the liquor by posing as a couple. To show that they were a couple, Shahina was dressed in clothes that she used to wear at home. There were 72 litres of liquor belonging to three brands in 9 cases. The Toyota Etios car, which was used by the accused to smuggle liquor, was also taken into custody. The woman even threatened to commit suicide when the journalists tried to click her picture after she was brought t the Irinjalakuda Excise Office.
