THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Sahitya Akademy responded to lyricist and director Sreekumaran Thampi's criticism. Thampy had alleged that he was insulted after asking him to write a Kerala song for the government.

Academy President K Satchidanandan and secretary C P Aboobacker asked Thampi to write the lyrics. The two then asked him to rewrite the lyrics written. They did not inform him later whether they accepted the re-written lyrics or not. Sreekumaran Thampi in his Facebook post said that he later saw an advertisement inviting lyrics from poets. The academy has now responded to this.

Academy Secretary Aboobacker said that no decision has been taken on the song. Committees are being formed and meetings are held. The lyrics will be accepted only after the committee makes sure that it is good. It is a song which will be dedicated to the people of Kerala. The history and culture of Kerala should come in a manner in the lyrics acceptable to all people. The delay is due to that. The academy has not insulted Thampy at all. Aboobacker clarified that due respect is given to Thampi.

Meantime, Minister Saji Cherian said the issues raised by Thampi are quite serious. What he said is very important and the matter is taken seriously. Thampi has requested the minister to intervene. The minister will surely intervene. Will look into this today itself. All steps will be taken to ease him.
