THRISSUR: Lyricist B K Harinarayanan feels like he is being dragged unsolicitedly into a controversy. Harinarayanan responded to the Sahitya Akademi controversy and took the surprising stand to be along with Sreekuamran Thampi in his moment of distress.
Harinarayanan was reacting to the allegation raised by lyricist Sreekumaran Thampi saying that his song was rejected by Kerala Sahitya Akademi.
“Thampi sir’s songs are eternal and they are never cliché. Whatever line he chooses to write will have the soothing factor and to compare my work with him his rather a joke. My writing will never even come close to his lines of prowess. All the love songs of yesteryear being hummed by Malayalis have Sreekumaran Thampi’s contribution. His work is unparalleled. If I had known earlier about the distress caused to Thampi sir, I would have never given the yes nod to write the song.” said Harinarayanan.
Earlier, Kerala Sahitya Akademi president K Satchidanandan confirmed about rejecting the Kerala song written by poet Sreekumaran Thampi. The chairman said the song was rejected based on a unanimous decision from the committee members.
