'Kadaisi Vivasayi' actress beaten to death by son

CHENNAI: Actress Kasammal (71), who played an important role in the national award-winning Tamil film 'Kadaisi Vivasayi', was beaten to death by her son. The incident took place at Kasammal's home in Anaiyur in Madurai district. The police have arrested her son Namakodi (52) in the incident.

According to the police, Namakodi beat his mother to death following a fight over money to buy alcohol. Kasammal died on the spot, the FIR said. Kasammal and her husband Balasami have four children. Namakodi, who got separated from his wife, had been living with Kasammal.

Kasammal is known for her role in the film 'Kadaisi Vivasayi', in which Vijay Sethupathi and Nallandi played the lead roles. Several villagers had acted in the movie. 'Kadaisi Vivasayi' won the National Award for Best Tamil Film.
