WAYANAD: Another wild tusker has strayed into Wayanad from Karnataka. The forest department has informed that the tusker is stationed in Pathiri forest area. A tuskless fitted with radio collar reached the area.
The arrival of another tusker after Thanneer Komban is creating panic among the local residents. The tusker was first seen in Muthanga area. Forest department officials said the elephant is being closely monitored. A signal is being received from the radio caller. Officials said the Karnataka Forest Department has also been contacted to get more information about the tusker.
The rogue tusker Thanneer Komban was seen at Mananthavadi of Wayanad last Friday morning. After much effort, the tusker was tranquilised and captured. Later, it was taken to Karnataka in an elephant ambulance. After preliminary tests, Thanneer Komban died during a move to release it to the forests.
The post-mortem report clarified that the cause of death was heart attack. The report said the tusker’s heart and lungs stopped functioning together. There was an old wound on its left thigh. The report also stated that the pus on the leg had spread to other parts of its body.
