KANNUR: CPM state secretary MV Govindan on Wednesday said that the government will go ahead with the decision of private investment in Kerala. He said that private investment is needed to make Kerala a knowledge society. Govindan was responding to the media on the announcement of private and foreign universities in the budget.

"The aim now is to re-strengthen private sector investment in Kerala. There is already private investment in the education sector. Discussions have been held with SFI on the matter. The opposition is taking the stand that they will not allow any development activities in Kerala. They are the ones who didn't cooperate with Navakerala Sadas. Kerala has the only opposition in the world that does not allow the development of the government. They say negative things. Private investment is needed to become a knowledge society. If there is any objection to SFI, it will be discussed. The earlier position was that it private investment can be allowed," he said.

Meanwhile, Higher Education Minister R Bindu said that a final decision on allowing private investment and foreign universities has not been taken and the media should not worry about the leftist policy.
