THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Reports said Sandeep, accused in the murder case of house surgeon Dr Vandana Das of Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital, has no mental issues. The report is that of the expert team who examined him twice. The accused had several times tried to escape from the case citing mental issues.

He was soon subjected to a mental health examination. However, the doctors report mentioned that he does not have any mental issues. Following the report of the first medical team, Sandeep was taken to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College and was examined by a special medical team for ten days. The report of these doctors is that he has no mental issues. The police also said that Sandeep cannot escape from the case due to his mental issues. The high court had earlier rejected his bail plea.

Meantime, the high court had recently rejected her father Mohandas’ plea seeking a CBI probe in the case. The court's assessment is that there is no rare situation in the case.

Sandeep is the only accused in the case. There are no findings against the officials. A charge sheet was also submitted in the case. The court also observed that there is no need to interfere in the investigation. 106 witnesses were examined and the final report was submitted on the 89th day after a thorough investigation. Apart from the lapses on the part of the police who were with Sandeep, the petitioners could not point out any serious mistakes in the investigation. The court also observed that no criminal intent was alleged for the failure of the police to protect the public from the attack of the accused.
