‘Belur Magna’ seen in Irumbupalam area, mission to tranquilize continues; tiger trapped in fencing wire in Kannur

KANNUR: A tiger has been trapped in a fencing wire of a farm in Kottiyoor. The tiger entered the farm of an individual in Pannyamala. The forest department officials reached the spot on being informed.


Meantime, the mission to capture the tuskless Belur Magna which claimed the life of Ajeesh, a native of Mananthavady, is continuing. Signal was received from the radio collar fitted on the elephant. The elephant is now in Irumbupalam area. Forest guards have reached the spot. The tusker is being monitored.

The elephant is on the opposite direction as expected by the forest department. Kumkis are on the Bavali side. The killer elephant was seen around 10:30 am in the morning yesterday, but was a hundred meters away. It quickly ran into the inner forests. It was seen a second time in a swampy area. If darted, it could not have been captured. It later went again into the inner forests.
