THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The National Cooperative Consumers Federation (NCCF) has collected 10,000 tonnes of rice to distribute in Kerala as part 'Bharar Rice' initiative. It will be distributed to all districts in vehicles this week itself.
The rice collected from Thrissur and Angamaly FCI godowns is being polished and packed at the mill at Kalady in Ernakulam. It is sold in 5 and 10 kg packs.
State-level distribution of 'Bharat' branded rice at the rate of Rs 29 per kg under the central scheme was held in Thrissur on February 7. The national level inauguration was also held in Delhi that day. Kerala Kaumudi report's regarding the distribution of rice at the rate of Rs 29 to all sections became a political debate.
"The best type of rice distributed in the public market at a price of Rs.42 will reach the public at a much cheaper rate," NCCF officials said.

In the vehicles selling Bharat rice, people can get peanuts at a cheaper price-Rs 60/kg. The price is above Rs.100 in the general market.
