KOLLAM: Parents donated 27 cents of land to five needy families in memory of their daughter who used to come forward to help the poor.
Reji and Mini did this good deed in memory of their youngest daughter Akhila Reji who passed away at the age of 22. Four cents of land per family. Seven cents for a way.
During the COVID lockdown, Akhila had provided kits to the poor by spending her own money. She had come forward to help the ones in need during the flood days as well. That daughter said goodbye to this world on December 30, 2022. Akhila was a final-year Cardiac Perfusion Technology student at Balaji Medical College, Chennai. By the time she got home after the exam, she felt a slight fever and headache. Akhila died in a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.
Minister KN Balagopal handed over the documents of the land in Andoor.
Website and QR code on the tomb
A QR code and website link has been placed on the tombstone to bring alive the memories of Akhila, who was a good singer, dancer and painter. Photos and videos can be viewed by scanning the QR code. The website www.akhilaammuzz.in has 130 images and 25 videos. Akhila's sister Anija and her husband Felix are behind the idea.
The tombstone at Valakom Marthoma Valiyapally Cemetery was decorated with marble. There is also a picture of Akhila with a smile on the white marble. Flowers and chocolates brought by loved ones can be seen in the grave all the time.
She hasn't gone anywhere. She lives forever in our memories.
