Murdered youth after accusing him of stealing mobile phone; two migrant workers taken into custody

MANJERI: A labourer from Madhya Pradesh was found dead in Malappuram. The deceased has been identified as Bhainsdehi native Ramshankar (33). According to the police, the youth was hammered to death using a stone. The police have taken two people into custody in the incident. Police said that the two admitted the crime.

The police said that the accused murdered Ramshankar after accusing him of stealing the mobile phone of their friend. On Sunday night, a verbal altercation had broken out between the accused and Ramshankar regarding this. Following this, the accused smashed Ramshankar's head with a stone and fled the spot. Ramshankar later died of bleeding.

On Monday at 7.30 am, locals found the dead body on the footpath near Kuthukal Road. A blood-stained stone was found near the body. The body has been shifted to the Manjeri Medical College Hospital. The post-mortem will be performed after the arrival of Ramshankar's relatives.

Ramshankar had been doing concrete works in Manjeri and nearby places. District Police Chief S. Sasidharan and DySP Benny reached the spot and collected information. Mancheri CI KM Bineesh is leading the investigation.
