IDUKKI: The law students, who threatened to jump off the roof of college building following the suspension of seven students, have ended their strike. The students of Thodupuzha Co-operative Law College staged a protest. More than 30 students of the college were standing on the third floor of the college building.
The suicide threat was against the move to suspend the students who protested against alleged over grading by teachers. The students ended their strike late last night. The strike lasted for seven hours. The students protested seeking the resignation of the principal.
The fourth semester students protested against the management for favouring a first semester student by awarding him excess marks. Seven people who led the protest were suspended. Soon, other students climbed on top of the building and threatened to commit suicide.
The students were firm in their demands seeking the resignation of the principal and withdrawal of the suspension. Talks were held by Thodupuzha DySP to resolve the problem but it did not yield any results.
The protest ended after sub-collector Arun S Nair reached the spot and held talks with the students. A decision was taken to introduce administrative rule in the college. The collector also assured that there will be a thorough investigation into the allegation of irregularities in the excess marks given. It was also agreed that an impartial committee would look into the complaints of the students. The sub-collector also assured that action will be taken, if necessary, after the investigation. The sub-collector's office has informed that the order imposing administrative rule will be issued today. The students said that they will continue their strike if the assurances are not fulfilled.
