THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The health inspector of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation has been suspended over the garbage issue in Amayizhanjan Canal. The action pointed dereliction of duty. Mayor Arya Rajendran suspended Secretariat circle health inspector K Ganesh, who is in charge of the area that includes the Thampanoor part of the canal, following the internal inquiry report.

Ganesh, the secretariat circle health inspector, is in charge of the area which includes Rajaji Nagar, Palayam and Thampanoor parts where Amayizhanjan Canal passes through. The health inspector was responsible for taking steps to clean the canal at regular intervals and preventing dumping of garbage in the canal by private establishments. During the investigation conducted by the corporation health department, it was found that there was a serious fall on Ganesh's part. Ganesh was not willing to shut down the company that dumped toilet waste into Amayizhanjan Canal. The report said the institution was eventually closed down by a replacement system.

The incident of the death of Joy, the sanitation worker, who died while cleaning the Amayizhanjan Canal, had sparked a big controversy. A huge protest was raised against the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation over the incident. Joy's body was found in the canal 46 hours after he went missing. Joy was entrusted to remove the waste from Amaizhanchan Canal that flows under the railway station. Joy is the son of Neshamani and Mary of Marayamuttom.
