THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) has introduced more restrictions and reforms to the driving test in the state. The new changes are mentioned in the circular issued by the MVD today. The changes will come into effect from May 1.

The number of people who have to take the driving test under a Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) per day has been fixed at 30. The number of applicants for the Learner's Test will also be limited accordingly. 'H-test' has been dropped from the car driving test.

According to the new circular, two-wheelers used for the geared motorcycle category must have a gear selection mechanism operated by foot. The ground test in the Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) category should include angular parking, parallel parking, zig-zag driving and gradient test. A car with automatic gear and transmission should not be used for a driving test. The circular also states that vehicles older than 15 years should not be used for the test.

A dashboard camera should be installed in the motor driving school's vehicle used for the driving test. If a road test is conducted in the designated ground or testing arena, it will be considered as a lapse on the part of the officer in charge. The test of two-wheelers should be recorded and stored. The recorded data should be transferred to the computer of the Motor Vehicle Department. This data should be stored for three months. The circular also states that driving school instructors should have minimum educational qualifications specified by the government.
