THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The results of the by-elections to 23 local wards in 10 districts in the state have started coming out. The LDF registered a surprise victory in six places. It defeated the BJP in Ottasekharamangalam and Vellar in Thiruvananthapuram.
The LDF won the seats in Nedumbassery and Mullassery by defeating the UDF. The LDF also won in the fifth ward in Muzhappilangad in Kannur. The Left Front retained its seats in the Pazhayakunnummal ward in Thiruvananthapuram, Chadayamangalam panchayat and Kuriyod ward.
The CPM won in Pookkottukavu in Palakkad. At present, the UDF has won in seven places. The Congress won in Moolakkada and eighteenth wards in Munnar. The UDF also won in Kottakkal Choonda and East Viloor wards in Malappuram. The front retained its seats in Madayi and Ramanthali wards in Kannur.
The by-elections were held in 1 corporation ward, four municipality wards and 18 grama panchayat wards in 10 districts. The BJP won in three wards. The BJP managed to record its first victory in Mattanur Municipal Town Ward. BJP seized the seat from Congress. It also retained the 6th ward in Poovachal panchayat. BJP also won in Veliyanadu in Kuttanad.
