KANNUR: The accused in a drug case, who escaped from the Kannur jail 40 days ago, has been caught. Koyyode native TC Harshad was caught from a house in Bharathipuram in Tamil Nadu. The police also arrested his girlfriend Apsara, a tattoo artist, who helped him to stay in hiding.
After escaping from jail, Harshad went straight to Bengaluru. Later, Apsara too reached Bengaluru. The two then went to places such as Delhi and the Nepal border. After this, they went to Tamil Nadu. The two had not used their phones or ATMs after reaching Tamil Nadu.
The two then started living together by renting a house in Bharathipuram. They first rented the house of a Sub-Collector. Later, they shifted to another house. Apsara had previously worked at Harshad's friend's firm in Thalassery. Both of them fell in love there. Harshad has a wife and child in Kannur. Apsara is also married to another man.
Harshad had been serving 10 years of rigorous imprisonment. On January 14, he left the jail to collect the newspaper. He then escaped with his friend Rizwan who waited for him outside. The police later identified Rizwan during the investigation based on the CCTV footage. Upon questioning him, the police received crucial information about Harshad's whereabouts. Harshad is accused in 17 cases, including robbery and sale of ganja.
