Swimming prodigy Drupitha dies from suffocation after completing practice

VENJARAMOODU: A swimming prodigy who suffered suffocation while practising in the waters, died shortly after being admitted into the hospital. Drupitha (14), daughter of Binu and Tara, of ‘Tharakam’ house in Koliyakode is the deceased. She was a 10th-standard student in LVHS Pothencode.

Drupitha, a promising swimming talent has won several accolades including gold medals in school-level meets. The shocking incident happened on Wednesday evening. After completing her practice session in the Pirappancode swimming pool, Drupitha was about to get into her locker room when she experienced shortness of breath. In no time, she fainted on the floor and was rushed to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College by the onlookers and other staff of the pool.

However, her life couldn’t be saved as Drupitha died Wednesday night while undergoing treatment.
