KOCHI: The court acquitted the eight accused except one in the case relating to the murder attempt on CPM leader P Jayarajan. The Kerala High Court acquitted eight accused except the second accused Chirukkandoth Prashant. Justice Padmarajan pronounced the verdict after considering the plea filed by the accused and the government.
The case is that Jayarajan was attacked on Thiruvonam day on August 25 in 1999. The accused in the case were those including RSS district and taluk karyavahaks.
Those acquitted are Kadicheri Aji, Manoj, Para Shashi, Elamthottathil Manoj, Kuniyil Sanoob, Jayaprakashan, Kovveri Pramod and Thaikkandy Mohanan. The court had found Prashant, the second accused, guilty in the case. The court observed that the prosecution failed to produce strong evidence against the accused including attempt to murder. The trial court had previously convicted six in the case.
