KOCHI: A Sub Inspector has tendered an apology to the High Court for insulting a lawyer at the Alathur police station. It was VR Rineesh, a former SI of the Alathur station, who tendered an unconditional apology before Justice Devan Ramachandran in the High Court. The court accepted the SI's apology.
Earlier, the High Court had come down heavily on Rineesh over his stand that he had not done anything in contempt of court.
Following the criticism from the court, the SI filed a fresh affidavit expressing regret for his action.
Meanwhile, the court once again directed the state police chief to inform about the disciplinary action taken against the SI. The court directed the DGP to inform the court about the action taken against Rineesh when it considers the case after two weeks. The lawyer who appeared for the DGP informed the court that the investigation was going on. Justice Devan Ramachandran clarified that the DGP does not have to appear in court in person.
The court's intervention came after a video emerged of Rineesh insulting advocate Aquib Suhail, who arrived at the Alathur station carrying a court order to release the vehicle in a traffic accident case.
