THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Congress candidates for the Lok Sabha elections may be announced on Tuesday. KPCC president K Sudhakaran will go to Delhi on Monday for final discussions regarding the selection of candidates. Discussions with AICC will be held on Tuesday. Candidates may be announced on the same day.
Congress is contesting in 16 seats in Kerala. In Kerala, which currently has 15 sitting MPs, the sitting MPs may field themselves except in Kannur and Wayanad constituencies. There are indications that the party may field new candidates in some constituencies where the party is not satisfied with the performance of the MPs.
K Sudhakaran is the sitting MP in Kannur. He had earlier said that he was not interested in contesting and later changed his position. Presently, Sudhakaran's position is that he will contest if the party demands. The high command will take the final decision on this matter. The final decision has not been taken on whether Rahul Gandhi will contest in the Wayanad constituency. If Rahul Gandhi does not contest, then UDF convener MM Hasan is likely to contest from Wayanad. The party is of the opinion that if Sudhakaran does not contest in Kannur, the chances of winning are low.
