Husband arrested eight months after suicide of newlywed bride in Thiruvananthapuram

KATTAKKADA: Months after a newlywed bride committed suicide, her husband has been arrested by the police. The arrested V Vipin. of Shibin Bhavan in Kallamam, has been charged with crimes such as abetment of suicide and dowry harassment.

On July 2, 2023, PS Sona (24), daughter of Prabhakaran and M Shailaja, of Sona Bhavan in Thannichankuzhi in Panniyode, was found hanging in the bedroom of her matrimonial home, just 15 days after marriage. Vipin and Sona have been in love for years. Then the relatives intervened and conducted a grand marriage. According to her family, Sona returned home with her husband after marriage and was happy. The family demanded an inquiry into the incident.

According to the police, the investigation found that Sona's death was due to physical and mental abuse by her husband. A police team led by DySP Jayakumar arrested the accused and produced him in the Kattakkada court.

Vipin is an auto driver. Sona was an employee at a stamp paper writing firm in Kattakkada for about a year. Although it was a love marriage, Vipin mentally harassed Sona by demanding dowry. She was also physically beaten. It was found that the woman committed suicide due to distress.

Sona was found hanging in the room where Vipin was sleeping. The police are also not convinced by the claim that the husband was not aware of this. But the investigation so far has found that it was suicide and not murder, the police said.
