NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday announced a reduction of Rs 100 in the price of cooking gas cylinders on International Women’s Day. The Prime Minister informed this on X. Modi said the announcement is aiming the welfare of millions of families.
Modi said the reduction will significantly ease the financial burden on millions of households across the country, especially benefiting our Nari Shakti, his post read. The Prime Minister also said that by making cooking gas more affordable, we also aim to support the well-being of families and ensure a healthier environment.
The government had the other day announced the extension of Rs 300 per cylinder subsidy to poor women under the Ujjwala Yojana for the next fiscal starting April 1. Ujjwala Yojana is a scheme to provide gas cylinders to women below the poverty line. It has been decided to extend the subsidy of Rs 300 for 14.2 kg cylinder till March next year. The government is spending an additional Rs 12,000 crore for this purpose. Ten crore people will benefit from this.
