RIYADH: The UAE government has extended a helping hand to expatriates, including Indians, during the holy month of Ramzan. In addition to curbing the rise in prices of essential commodities, authorities have also taken steps to make 4,000 items more available in the market. According to the officials, the action is part of protecting consumer rights in the country. Inspections have been intensified across the country. Strict action will be taken if the violation is noticed.

The prices of items such as rice, chicken, bread, dairy products, cooking oil, sugar, pulses, bread and wheat will not increase in the month of Ramzan. Adequate availability of these items in the market has also been ensured. The market prices of most essential commodities used to go up significantly on special occasions, including Ramzan. This is why the authorities took action to curb the price hike even before the start of the month of Ramzan.

Earlier, the UAE Ministry of Human Resources had made adjustments to the working hours of employees working in the private sector during the holy month. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation announced that the working hours will be reduced by two hours during the holy month of Ramzan.
