THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Reports of KSRTC in financial crisis is a piece of regular news in Kerala. But this is about KSRTC reaping profit by a huge margin. The route rationalization in ordinary services, one of the first ideas of KB Ganesh Kumar after assuming charge as the Transport Minister, has proved to be an instant success.
By eliminating 52,456 dead kilometres a day and reducing diesel consumption by 13,101 litres, KSRTC has managed to save Rs 12,51,392 in diesel costs, Rs 2,09,825 in maintenance costs and a daily saving of Rs 4 per kilometre in spare parts costs.
In this way, by implementing route rationalization in KSRTC's ordinary services, a monthly saving of Rs.4,38,36,500 can be achieved. According to KSRTC officials, the reason behind this achievement is the realization that curbing unnecessary expenditure and revenue leakage is necessary for the survival of the corporation.
This scheme, which has been implemented in ordinary services and has been a huge success, will be implemented in the long distance services in time. This will avoid huge losses in service operations which are the backbone of KSRTC's revenue. In this way, KSRTC will continue to make joint efforts to rapidly implement the effective reform ideas demanded by the current situation, officials said.
