Four-day-old baby was suffocated to death, Vijayan was bludgeoned to death, more information out on double murder in Kattappana

IDUKKI: More information is out in the double murder that happened in Kattappana. Two identified as Vijayan and a new born baby was killed years ago in the name of sorcery. With this, Vijayan's wife has also been implicated in the murder case and the number of accused in the case rose to three. The accused are Nithish, Vijayan's wife Suma and son Vishnu. The FIR has mentioned that Vijayan died after he was hit on his head with a hammer. Nithish, Vijayan and his son Vishnu are the accused in the case of killing the newborn baby. The accused have been charged with murder, destruction of evidence and gang crime. The police have registered two cases against Nithish for killing Vijayan and the newborn baby.

When Vijayan held the baby, Nithish covered its nose and mouth with a cloth and suffocated it to death. The murder was to avoid the embarrassment on the baby born over a secret relationship. The baby's body was buried in the cow shed. The floor of the house where Vijayan was buried will be excavated and examined today. The police believe that more clarity would be obtained on the murder after this. The police are also investigating the possibility of witchcraft and human sacrifice.

The information of the double murder surfaced when Nithish alias Rajesh (31) of Kanchiyar Puthenpurackal and Vishnu of Kakkattukada Nellanikkal were arrested in a theft case. Vishnu's father Vijayan and his newborn niece were killed and buried on two occasions. Nithish confessed to the crime during a detailed interrogation led by district police chief Vishnu Pradeep after taken into custody yesterday. Vishnu’s four-day-old baby niece was killed and buried in Kattappana in the house where they lived earlier. Vijayan was killed nine months ago and buried inside their house in Kakkattukada.

The police arrested Vishnu Vijayan and Nithish Rajan in a theft case on March 2. When the police reached Vishnu's house for inspection, they got suspicious on the abnormality over the speech of his mother and sister and a detailed probe reached to the double murder case.

The accused will be in police custody till Sunday 1.30 pm. He fainted in the court when heard that he will be in custody. He was taken to a taluk hospital and after medical examination, was interrogated. The other accused Vishnu is undergoing treatment for his injuries sustained during theft.
