Ruckus in university youth festival after KSU disrupt event alleging SFI brutality

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KSU workers barged into Thiruvananthapuram’s Senate hall shouting slogans and disrupting the Kerala University Youth Festival event alleging SFI brutality.

The KSU workers said they had to suffer the beatings and torture of SFI workers on a constant basis during the youth festival and even alleged that the SFI members attacked the students of Thiruvananthapuram Law College, Nedumangad Government College and Mar Ivanios College.

The police had arrested three people including the judge from the youth festival event venue the other day following allegations of bribery. Shaji (52), a native of Kannur Chovva who was the judge of Margamkali, Jomet (33) a native of Kasaragod Parappa and C Suraj (33), native of Malappuram Tanur, were arrested by the Cantonment Police following a complaint by the university union. They will be released on bail. The police informed that the charge sheet will be submitted to the court after serving a notice to the accused as it is a crime punishable by less than seven years. Sonu Sreekumar (35), a resident of Kollam Chavara, who was with them, was found to have no involvement in the crime and was released. The accused did not disclose the amount of the bribe received.

Controversy erupted soon after the results were announced in Friday night’s Margamkali event. 14 teams contested in the event and Ivanios was crowned first while Sree Swathirunal Music College got second place and University College ended up in third place. However, the university college students came up with an accusation of bribery as it was evident from the dance that the participants of Ivanios committed several mistakes and were far from perfect.
