THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan reiterated his stance that the Citizenship Amendment Act, which he said treats Muslim minorities as second-class citizens, will not be implemented in Kerala. The Chief Minister said the decision from the Kerala government was made long back. The Chief Minister also stated that the whole of Kerala will be united in opposing this communal law.
Pinarayi Vijayan also said that the central government's action of notifying the provisions of the Citizenship Amendment Act ahead of the elections is to disturb the communal harmony of the country. On Monday, just before the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification regarding the amendment of the Citizenship Act.
CM Pinarayi Vijayan:
“This is to divide the people, incite communal sentiment and undermine the very basic principles of the Constitution. This move to stratify Indian citizens must be unitedly opposed.
This can only be seen as part of the Hindutva communal agenda of the Sangh Parivar. It is a blatant violation of the Constitution to grant citizenship to non-Muslims who immigrated to India from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan on or before December 31, 2014, and to deny citizenship to only Muslims.
Kerala was the first legislature to pass a resolution against the Citizenship Amendment Act. The government in Kerala has announced that NPR will not be implemented in the state.”
Pinarayi Vijayan also accused the Sangh Parivar move to forcefully implement its communal agenda undermining the popular protests and criticism.
