NEW DELHI: India's three armed forces on Tuesday demonstrated the strength of India's indigenously developed weapons systems in Rajasthan's Pokhran desert, where once nuclear bombs were tested. The military exercises named 'Bharat Shakti' were held in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Tejas fighter jets and MK4 helicopters roared in the sky. The firing ranges were lined up with battle tanks Arjun, K-9 Vajra, Dhanush, Sarang cannons and T-90 tanks. Aakash missile defence, logistics drones, robotic mules, advanced light helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles demonstrated combat capabilities in valour. The Navy's anti-ship missiles and cargo aircraft showcased its technological prowess.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defense Staff Lt. General Anil Chauhan, Army Chief General Manoj Pande, Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari, and Navy Chief Admiral R. Harikumar were also present.
“Within 10 years, India built its fighter jets, aircraft carriers, C-295 transport aircraft and advanced flight engines. 5th generation fighter jets are ready. 6 lakh crore worth of equipment purchased from Indian companies. Defence production has become one lakh crore.” PM Modi said this was the beginning of a ‘New India’.
