Popular congress leader Padmini Thomas jumps ship, will join BJP

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Only a few days have passed since Padmaja Venugopal’s switch from Congress to BJP but more such leaders are likely to join the bandwagon soon. In the latest, Padmini Thomas, the former athlete and popular congress leader is on the verge of joining the BJP. At a press conference scheduled at 11 am on Thursday, Padmini will reveal the reason for her exit. She was the former president of the sports council in Kerala.

The BJP leadership on Wednesday gave sly hints about more influx of congress workers to BJP in the coming days. It is reported that the leaders, including a former minister who handled an important department in the Oommen Chandy government from 2011-16, are planning to embrace saffron politics.

If this former minister reaches the BJP camp, it is more or less certain that the leadership will field him from the Kollam constituency for the upcoming LS polls. Apart from this, there are also rumours about two former MLAs of the Congress party ready to leave their old bastion to try their luck with BJP.
