'Nowadays, inaugurations pay more than cinema work, it's all about fame and money now'

Actress Mallika Sukumaran has expressed her concerns about the lack of seriousness among many actors in the new generation towards the field of cinema. Speaking at Kaumudi Movies', the veteran actress highlighted how the perception of cinema has evolved over time.

"Nowadays, when we discuss cinema, it often revolves around glamour, money, fame and the social recognition actors receive. These seem to be the primary motivations for many actors in the new generation. However, it wasn't the same in our era. Acting in movies was primarily a means of livelihood, providing income for daily expenses. Nowadays, actors often earn more from attending inauguration ceremonies than from their work in cinema," said Mallika Sukumaran.

She also recounted an incident where someone questioned her for not addressing actor Jayan as 'Jayan Sir'. She clarified that Jayan was younger than her and was like a younger brother who respectfully addressed her as 'chechi' (sister). She dismissed such comments as frivolous and indicative of a lack of depth in understanding interpersonal relationships.
