Renowned Tamil actor and director K Bhagyaraj has responded to the controversial remarks made by Tamil-Malayalam writer Jeyamohan against the Malayalam film 'Manjummel Boys'. Bhagyaraj said that it is not the way of the Tamil people to insult an entire state while criticizing a film. He also said that the people of Tamil Nadu are the ones who respect and praise others. He was speaking at the audio launch function of the film 'Kaa', starring Andrea Jeremiah.
"I know this will create a controversy. But I have to say this. The film 'Manjummel Boys' became a bigger hit in Tamil Nadu than in Kerala. I'm very happy about it. However, a Tamil writer stooped to a low level to criticize this film. This is disappointing. It would have been fine if he had criticized the film's faults. But he made personal comments. That is not a Tamilan's culture. If he had said that he didn't like the way Tamil people were portrayed in the film or something like that, it could have been seen as criticism. It was very bad that he insulted Keralites personally. Malayalis should not think that there is no one in Tamil Nadu to respond to such a thing," Bhagyaraj said.
Jeyamohan had sparked a controversy by publishing a blog with the headline 'Manjummel Boys-Kudikaraporukikalin Koothatam’. In his blog, Jeyamohan said that the 'Manjummel Boys' was a disturbing film and like many other Malayalam films, it also normalized drug addiction.
