KOCHI: A petition has been filed in the High Court to prevent MLAs and Rajya Sabha members from contesting the Lok Sabha elections without resigning their posts. However, the High Court said that it cannot interfere in this matter.

A bench comprising the Chief Justice criticized the plea and stated that the Election Commission is there to look into such matters and the High Court should not be approached. After the court warned that the petition would be dismissed with a fine of Rs.25,000, Advocate BA Aloor, who appeared for the complainant, withdrew the PIL.

The PIL was filed by Johny, a political observer. In the petition, Johnny said that in Kerala alone, seven people, including the Union Minister of State, are contesting without resigning from the ministerial post and this method is stealing people's tax money.

Union Ministers Rajeev Chandrasekhar, V Muraleedharan, Minister K Radhakrishnan, MLAs KK Shailaja, V Joy, Shafi Parambil, Rajya Sabha Member KC Venugopal and others are contesting from Kerala in the Lok Sabha elections.
