THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is a major increase in the number of young voters in the voters list for the Lok Sabha elections. More than 300,000 new voters are all set to register their right to vote. 3,88,000 new voters have been included since the October 2023 published voter list. 18–19-year-old voters belong to the category of young voters. This increase in the number of young voters in a short period of time is the first in the country on an average basis.
It is estimated that the increase in the number of youths was due to the state-wide campaign programs conducted under the auspices of the chief electoral office and the campaign conducted at the district levels under the leadership of the district election officers.
Various awareness programs were organized through social media and in colleges, universities and public places. As part of the awareness activities, there were vehicles seeking votes campaign in various constituencies of the state. As part of the voter awareness programmes, the posts prepared by the chief electoral officer and district election officers and uploaded on social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook were well received.
