Efforts must be made by world nations; war in Gaza must stop

israel-gaza-war-world

What is going on in Gaza is a one-sided war. Israel is the only one fighting there, and the Palestinian people are on the receiving end of it. The cause of the war was Hamas' cross-border attacks on Israel. Israel has retaliated a hundredfold. 32,000 Palestinians have died. About 23 lakh people are in the grip of extreme hunger. No one can justify the continuation of the war even after many innocent children, women and old people have become casualties of war. In addition to the loss of life in Gaza, about 75,000 people are being treated for injuries. Most of the hospitals where they were supposed to be treated have been destroyed.

Israeli war has been going on for almost six months after the Hamas attack in October last year. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu had initially said the attack would never be forgotten, but the world did not expect it to be so brutal. The whole world is clamouring to stop the war. The UN Security Council may have taken this into account to unanimously pass a resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza for the remaining days of Ramadan. There are 15 member countries in the committee. America stayed away while 14 countries supported the resolution. America, which had vetoed the ceasefire resolution earlier, abstained from it this time, which is also proof that the people of that country also do not accept this one-sided war.

The United States had vetoed three previous ceasefire resolutions. The US-led resolution last week failed to pass as Russia and China vetoed it. The resolution calls for the temporary ceasefire to lead to a long and permanent ceasefire. The resolution calls on Hamas to release all hostages. “A vote in favour of this draft resolution is a support to the Palestinian's right to life. Conversely, voting against it implies an endorsement of the brutal violence and collective punishment inflicted against them.” These words, spoken by Algeria's permanent representative, Amar Bendjama, reflect the desire of the people of the world as a whole.

The Security Council has passed a new resolution in the context of Gaza moving towards famine and Israel deciding to launch a ground war in Rafah, where hundreds of thousands of people are refugees. Hamas, which created the cause of the war, must also be prepared to make some compromises. Israel says they are yet to release more than 130 hostages. Arab countries that can influence Hamas should also urgently intervene in this matter. At any rate, there should be a ceasefire and efforts should be made by the countries of the world including India without wasting a single moment. Gaza has no more tears left to shed. It is beyond barbaric justice to continue the war.
