KANNUR: A person has been taken into police custody in connection with vandalizing memorial tombs of CPM leaders at Payyambalam. This individual is a native of Kannur who used to collect bottles from the beach. The police said that he is a loiterer on the beach. However, it is not confirmed whether he is behind the incident. The detained person is being interrogated by the ACP.

Memorial tombs of CPM leaders in Payyambalam were defaced by pouring chemicals. The chemical was spilled on a photograph placed in Kodiyeri Balakrishnan's memorial. The liquid was also poured on the memorial tombs of former chief minister EK Nayanar, O Bharathan and former state secretary Chadayan Govindan. A special investigation team was formed yesterday to investigate the incident. The investigation is examining the entire CCTV footage of the area.
