THRISSUR: A complaint has been lodged against NDA candidate Suresh Gopi of the Thrissur constituency for allegedly violating the election code of conduct. LDF has accused Suresh Gopi of extensively using religious symbols in his campaign. Election Commission has requested an explanation from Suresh Gopi regarding the complaint. The District Collector, who also serves as the Chief Electoral Officer of the district, is seeking clarification.
CPI District Secretary and LDF Thrissur Parliamentary Constituency Central Election Committee Treasurer KK Vatsaraj filed the complaint against Suresh Gopi under various sections of the Representation of the People Act.
The primary reason cited in the complaint is that the candidate's materials lack necessary details regarding printing and publishing. It is alleged that Suresh Gopi's election campaigns are heavily relying on religious symbols and are attempting to stoke religious tensions.
