THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Disaster Management Authority says that the cause of the sea rage in various districts of the state is the 'Kallakkadal' (kallan meaning thief and kadal means sea) phenomenon. The phenomenon is given this name because the sea comes up unexpectedly and takes up the land. Though it is similar to a tsunami, it is not as large or violent as a tsunami. But it cannot be taken lightly.
According to the Disaster Management Authority, high tide is the reason for the higher intensity of 'Kallakkadal' phenomenon and advised public to remain calm. There is also a warning that sea attack can be expected for two more days.
At the same time, the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services has warned that there is a possibility of 0.5 to 1.5 meter high waves and sea attacks on the Kerala and south Tamil Nadu coast till 11.30 tonight. Fishermen and coastal residents are advised to be cautious.
Precautions
1. As the rough seas are likely to intensify, stay away from the danger areas as per the instructions of the authorities.
2. Keep fishing vessels (boats, boats, etc.) safely moored in the harbour. Keeping a safe distance between boats can avoid the risk of collision. Safety of fishing equipment should be ensured.
3. Avoid trips to the beach and activities at sea completely.
