NEW DELHI: The Indian meteorological department on Thursday said the summer experienced by Kerala and Karnataka was unprecedented and feared that it was more like a heat wave. The centre has also warned that the heat will increase in the coming days in the states of Kerala, Karnataka, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and West Bengal.

Hot and humid weather is likely over Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karakal till April 7, Coastal Karnataka from April 3 to 5, and West Bengal and Odisha on April 03. Exposure to direct sunlight will have the potential to cause serious health distress.

IMD's latest bulletin says that Northeast India will experience heavy rain and thundershowers till April 7, 2024, while the heat wave conditions are likely to prevail over some parts of India from April 3 to 6, 2024. Some parts of northern Karnataka will experience severe heat from April 3 to 5.

The IMD has warned that India will experience extreme heat during the period from April to June. According to the Meteorological Department, the heat will affect most of the central and western peninsular parts of the country.
