ICU sexual assault case; Health Minister Veena George ensures justice for survivor

KOZHIKODE: Health Minister Veena George has stated that justice will be ensured regarding the ICU incident at the medical college. The decision will be made in accordance with the court's ruling on the case involving the senior nursing officer, based on the investigation report.

In response to the survivor's demands, the government conducted an inquiry at the directorate of medical education level, taking necessary actions against those found guilty in the investigation report. Further steps are being taken in accordance with regulations, with notifications sent to the honorable court for its consideration. A court-directed decision is preferred to prevent any false sense of impunity for similar offenders.

An investigation was promptly initiated upon noticing the incident in the ICU sexual assault case. Strong actions, including suspension from service, were taken against the accused. Those found guilty in the investigation conducted at the principal level were suspended. The survivor lodged a complaint against the decision to reinstate those suspended at the medical college level. Subsequently, the minister instructed the director of the medical education department to revoke the action. Following this, the Minister directed the Director of the Medical Education Department to conduct a more detailed investigation, which found 8 individuals guilty. It was revealed that the senior nursing officer had failed in their duty, and action was taken accordingly. The sole consideration in this matter is to provide justice to the survivor, without regard to anyone's status or position.
