KOLLAM: Punalur is one of the places in Kerala experience a scorching summer as the temperature is almost 40 degree Celsius. The day temperature recorded in Punalur on Thursday was 39.8 degrees Celsius- the highest temperature recorded in Punalur this summer. None of the recent years have been so hot.
There is also a large increase in the lowest temperature recorded here. The lowest temperature recorded on Thursday was 22.6 degrees Celsius. Last few days it was 23 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperature has never been so high in recent years.
Extreme heat is affecting people's lives in the eastern region of Kollam district. Widespread drying up of water bodies and low water levels, including in Kallada River, has lead to severe drought.
Despite the scorching heat, Punalur received rain on Thursday evening, which was a relief. The rain started at five o'clock and lasted for half an hour. But despite the rain, the heat did not subside much.
