KOTTAYAM: A railway employee died after being struck by a train during track maintenance at Neelimangalam, Kottayam. Viju Mathew (48) was the victim. The incident occurred near Kumaranallur Trikkayil Colony at 4 pm today. Viju was hit by the Kayamkulam-Ernakulam MEMU train.

Witnesses, fellow employees, reported that the accident happened while Viju was fixing locks on the railway track. It is presumed that Viju, who suffered from a balance disorder, might have fallen onto the track. Kottayam Railway Police and Gandhinagar Police responded to the scene. The deceased, Viju, resided in Railway Quarters in Kottayam.

Two days earlier, a TTE was killed after being pushed by a migrant worker from a moving train in Thrissur. Vinod, a resident of Manjummal, Ernakulam, lost his life. Another train passed over Vinod's body after he fell onto the track. Rajinikanth, from Odisha, was arrested in connection with this incident. An altercation with the drunk man who boarded the train without a ticket led to the fatal assault.
