Woman dies after setting her ablaze over fight with husband on phone, children sustain burns

PALAKKAD: A woman allegedly died by suicide after a dispute with her husband via phone in Vallapuzha. She has been identified as Beena (30), wife of Pradeep of Cherukod Mundathuparambil. She set herself ablaze after a fight with her husband. Her children Nikha (12) and Niveda (8) are undergoing treatment in the hospital for burns. They were found burnt inside the house Sunday morning.

Beena tried to commit suicide by setting herself on fire after a fight with her husband on the phone. Her husband Pradeep is in Vadakara related to his work. He comes home only every two months. While talking on the phone this morning, Beena and Pradeep got into a fight. Soon after the call, she entered her bedroom and set her ablaze.

The incident happened on her bedroom on the top floor of the house. Her children, who were lying in the bedroom also suffered the burns. Though all the three were taken to Thrissur Medical College Hospital, the life of Beena could not be saved. Her daughter Nikha has sustained 90% burns and the injuries of Niveda are not serious.

Theirs was a love marriage. Pradeep’s father Raman, mother Chandramathi, brother Prajith and wife Sneha are also staying in this house. The Pattambi police have registered a case into the incident and an investigation has started.
