KOCHI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday questioned CPM Thrissur district secretary MM Varghese and state secretariat member PK Biju in the Karuvannur case. The two leaders were questioned for around eight and a half hours before they were released. The ED directed MM Varghese to produce documents regarding CPM's assets and properties in Thrissur. It also issued a notice to PK Biju asking him to appear for questioning on Thursday.

Speaking to the media after questioning, Varghese said that he would present the documents demanded by the ED. The ED asked Varghese about the details of CPM's accounts in Karuvannur and other banks. The agency sought the details of the CPM's assets after the Income Tax Department froze four bank accounts belonging to the party at the Thrissur branch of the Bank of India.

PK Biju was asked about the information regarding the statement given by Satheeshkumar, the main accused in the Karuvannur fraud case. The ED officials asked him about his connection and transactions with Satheeshkumar. He was also asked about the findings of the probe conducted by the party under his leadership. Before the questioning, Varghese had told the media that he did not know the details regarding the bank accounts of the party's local committees. This was the sixth time Varghese was questioned by the ED. PK Biju was questioned twice.
