Girl allergic to prawns consumes curry, dies in Palakkad

PALAKKAD: A 20-year-old girl, who was undergoing treatment for allergy after consuming prawns curry, died on Sunday night. She has been identified as Nikhitha N, daughter of Gopalakrishnan of Ambalapara Meloor Nellikunnath House in Palakkad and Nisha.

Reports said Nikhitha was allergic to prawns. She consumed the curry served by her PG hostel. She consumed the curry on April 6. Her whole body was itching after that. Nikhitha was admitted to a private hospital in Thodupuzha and was later shifted to the intensive care unit due to breathing problems. She died on Sunday night at 11 pm.

Her relatives accused the hospital authorities of medical negligence. However, the hospital authorities explained that Nikhitha, who was on ventilator, was not in a situation to be shifted to another hospital. The Thodupuzha Police informed that the sample of internal organs has been sent for examination. Nikhitha was an optometrist at a private eyeglass shop in Thodupuzha. Jishnu is her brother.
