THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Weather experts think that the deadly summer of 2024 will continue till mid-May in the state. They have also predicted that the summer rains will soon hit the state during the second week of May. Unlike in previous years, the summer this time was unbearable and has spread across more districts. The temperature in both Palakkad and Punalur may rise to 42 degrees Celsius.

A yellow alert has been issued to Palakkad (40 degrees), Kollam (40), Thrissur (39), Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Kozhikode and Kannur (38) districts until the 14th of this month. Wayanad, Kozhikode and Malappuram districts, which have not yet received summer rain this season, may receive rainfall at the end of this month. Central and southern districts will receive summer rains in the next four days. Thiruvananthapuram and Kottayam will record more rainfall in the coming days.

The temperature recorded at Kanjirapuzha in Palakkad on Tuesday was 45.4 degrees. This is the highest temperature in the state. Two days ago it was 44.7 degrees in Erimayur. It was 43.3 degrees in Mankara and 42.1 degrees in Malampuzha Dam. This is recorded at automated weather stations installed in these areas.

Palakkad recorded a temperature of 40.2 degrees on Wednesday according to the Meteorological Centre. Automated stations are being set up to monitor and issue warnings about climate change.
