Rains predicted today; five districts on alert, chance of Kallakadal phenomenon

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains will continue in the state today. Yellow alert has been issued in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. A chance of isolated heavy rain has been predicted. Heavy rains mean rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours. Wind and thunderstorms are possible along with rain.

The Indian Meteorological Department informed that there is a possibility of light rain at isolated places in all the districts in the next three hours and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph.

A low-pressure trough is located from north Kerala coast to south Gujarat coast. As a result, moderate to moderate rainfall with widespread thunder and lightning is likely over Kerala in the coming days, the department said.

A yellow alert has been announced in Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod tomorrow, the next day in Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod, and on Monday in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod.

Kallakadal Phenomenon
According to the National Center for Oceanographic Studies (INCOIS), there is a possibility of Kallakadal phenomenon and high waves of 2.2 to 3.4 meters along the Kerala coast till 11.30 tonight. The Central Meteorological Department has informed that fishing should not be done on the coasts of North Kerala - Lakshadweep - Karnataka.
A high wave alert is also in place for Lakshadweep and Karnataka coasts. Fishermen and coastal residents in these areas should be extra cautious.

Alert issued
As the rough seas are likely to intensify, stay away from the danger areas as per the instructions of the authorities.

Keep fishing vessels safely moored in the harbour. Keeping a safe distance between boats can avoid the possibility of collision. Safety of fishing equipment should be ensured.

Avoid trips to the beach and activities at sea.
