KASARAGOD: The judge who delivered the verdict in the Riyaz Moulavi murder case has been transferred. District Principal Sessions Judge K.K. Balakrishnan has been transferred as Principal Sessions Judge, Alappuzha District. It is indicated that the change of location has nothing to do with the verdict. It is reported that Balakrishnan had applied for transfer six months ago.
The verdict in the Riyaz Moulavi murder case, which happened just before the election, was much debated. The judgment in the case was given on March 30. The court acquitted all three accused in the Riyaz Moulvi murder case. The government has appealed the verdict in the High Court. The Chief Minister himself directly intervened and took steps to file an appeal. Meanwhile, the judge has been transferred to Alappuzha.
The High Court has accepted the government's appeal challenging the Kasaragod Sessions Court's order acquitting the accused in the Riyaz Moulavi murder case and has directed to send a notice to the opposing parties. A Division Bench comprising Justices Jayasankaran Nambiar and V.M. Shyamkumar also suggested submitting the defendants' documents, including passports, to the trial court. The first three accused, Ajesh, Nithin Kumar and Akhilesh were acquitted.
