SRINAGAR: In a drastic incident, four children died and 10 went missing after a boat capsized in river Jhelum on Tuesday. Three injured people have been admitted to the hospital. About 20 people, including students, were in the boat. The SDRF team has been deployed here to search for the missing ones.
Rescue operations are being carried out in the area under the leadership of the State Disaster Management Force. For the past two days, Srinagar witnessed heavy rains even resulting in landslides in many areas. This is considered to be the mainspring for the accident. The boat was ferrying minors when the turbulent current and the rains created havoc and trauma for the residents.
Mehbooba Mufti, the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, reacted: ‘Shocked when I heard about the tragic boat accident in Balwara. The government is requested to provide necessary assistance to their family members.'
