THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police have regisered a case against UDF candidate Shashi Tharoor of Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency. The case is on the complaint of NDA candidate Rajeev Chandrasekhar, of the same constituency. Tharoor in an interview to a channel had accused Rajeev Chandrasekhar of getting votes by offering money to religious organizations.
Rajeev filed a complaint against this to the DGP. The case was registered by the Thiruvananthapuram cyber police.
The election commision had warned Tharoor in the incident. The commission assessed that the allegation was a violation of the code of conduct and Rajeev Chandrasekhar could not submit evidence against him.
Meantime, Tharoor's claim that the remarks were not directed at Rajeev Chandrasekhar or the BJP was rejected. However, the Election Commission also rejected BJP's claim that Tharoor's allegation incites religious and caste sentiments.
