KOCHI: Mohammad Irfan (34), infamously known as 'Bihar Robinhood', was brought to Kochi on Monday. It was on Saturday dawn that Irfan shocked the natives of Panampilly Nagar after he robbed the house of popular movie director Joshiy. It took police just one day to nab the culprit from Karnataka’s Udupi. Irfan was brought to Kochi at around 7:30 am on Monday, while the mainour was recovered from his car. Irfan is a native of Sitamarhi in Bihar.
According to city police commissioner S Shyam Sundar, Irfan came to Kochi from Bihar on April 20th, solely to conduct a robbery. The accused depended on Google to learn about Kochi and the posh residential areas of the city. According to police, Irfan targeted three more houses in the same lane but zeroed in on Joshiy’s house for the crime.
Irfan is accused in nineteen theft cases in six states across the country. Police will also investigate whether the culprit received any local assistance from Kochi to carry out the crime.
On Saturday dawn, after bending the window iron bars, Irfan sneaked inside ‘Abhilasham’, Joshiy’s house in B street of Panampilly Nagar. A diamond necklace worth Rs 25 lakh, 10 diamond earrings worth Rs 8 lakh, 10 rings, 10 gold necklaces, 10 bangles and 10 expensive watches were stolen from the house.
Irfan’s name found a place in the record of Kerala police, back in 2021 when he committed theft at the house of a prominent jewellery owner in Thiruvananthapuram. On that day, two and a half lakhs rupees worth of diamond jewellery and sixty thousand rupees were stolen.
Irfan, nicknamed Super Chor and Jaguar Thief, owns luxury cars, bungalows and properties in Bihar. He is also a father to two daughters.
